Tonight is the start of a HUGE weekend for the Amherstburg Admirals. Four games in four nights, two of which are against teams below us in the standings. We’re just two points behind the Mooretown Flags for sixth place.

The Wallaceburg Lakers are in town tonight, and they come in riding a nine game losing streak. So now is as good a time as any to grab two points against a team that is really struggling. They have yet to win a game on the road this season, sporting a record of 0-16-1-0 away from their home rink.

The Admirals lead the season series with a 3-1-0-0 record, outscoring Wallaceburg 20-12 in the four games. Klinton Kenney will get the nod in goal for the Admirals, while Joel Sowinski will be in net for Wallaceburg.

Dan Matoski is coming off a two goal performance in the loss to Alvinston last week, and he’s tied with Jordan Luciw for the team lead in points with 30 in 34 games. With Ryan Gruszka leaving for junior B, the player to watch for the Lakers is Justin Whitson, who has 31 points in 33 games.

Go Admirals!

FIRST PERIOD

19:21: The Admirals will get an early power play as Kindarachuk trips up Copeland. Great opportunity to jump ahead early.

17:17: A golden opportunity for Beattie right on the doorstep but the puck rolls off his stick at the last second.

15:59: Baasile does well to strip the defender of the puck and it leads to a good chance for Carter but Vankessel makes the save with his head.

13:50: That was close. Prymack made a nice move in the neutral zone to get around one guy and then nearly gets his head taken off. Good awareness to step out of the way at the last second.

13:24: A point shot gets tipped by Laframboise and Vankessel has to react quickly to keep it out.

12:20: Some sloppy defending but Kenney is there to bail out the Admirals with a big save.

11:06: Basile with a great shift. Forechecking hard and giving the Lakers defence a hard time.

10:36: Carter walks out to the slot untouched and Vankessel is forced to make a huge glove save. Probably the best chance so far for either team.

9:51: 1-0 Admirals
Carter with a great end to end rush and it eventually leads to Rutckyj bouncing it off Vankessel’s back and in. The Lakers argue that it never crossed the line but it looked quite obvious to me up in the booth. Admirals strike first.

8:23: More sustained pressure by the Admirals. Spent the whole shift in the offensive zone. Admirals have dominated this one so far.

7:35: A beautiful curl and drage move by Luciw but Vankessel is there to keep this a one-goal game.

6:11: Another icing against Wallaceburg. I think that’s their fourth or fifth already.

5:24: 1-1 Tie
After Carter beats a couple defenders with some great stick handling and nearly puts the Admirals up by two, the Lakers come back the other way and Waller beats Kenney with a snap shot.

3:55: Chance after chance for the Admirals. That time it was Rennie and Matoski nearly beating Vankessel, but he’s looked sharp so far tonight.

2:38: Morand gets his shot from the point blocked and is forced to haul down the Lakers forward to prevent a breakaway. Admirals will be shorthanded for the first time tonight.

0:19: Prymack and Meyskens going at each other a bit here. This one is starting to get chippy.

SECOND PERIOD

17:40: This period starts the same way the last one ended. Lots of pressure for the Admirals and Vankessel coming up big.

16:56: Now it’s Beattie going end to end and cutting right out front. Can’t beat the Lakers goaltender though.

15:27: More after the whistle rough stuff. Safe to say these two teams don’t like each other much.

14:06: Sobocan causes the turnover and ends up getting a good chance on the doorstep. He’s played really well so far tonight.

13:07: Now it’s Laframboise stripping the puck from the Wallaceburg defender. They’ll turn it over if you pressure them.

11:19: Wallaceburg gets a chance but it looks like it hit the post and bounced out. That was close.

11:06: 2-1 Admirals
FINALLY the Admirals beat Vankessel again. Matoski does well to get the puck to Gangnon who makes no mistake wiring it past the Wallaceburg goaltender for the lead.

9:43: The Admirals will have to fend off a power play now though as Laframboise gets called for hooking.

8:28: Beattie levels Chovich and he gets two and a game for checking from behind. I’m not so sure about that call. I thought it was clean. MAYBE a boarding call at the most.

7:25: Mad scramble in the crease and it looked like Morand just saved a goal by laying out to block the shot. Huge defensive play.

5:30: Matoski forces the turnover and slides it over to Copeland who gets robbed  by Vankessel. Nice play though.

3:22: The Admirals have done well to cut to the net for scoring chances tonight. Basile does it here and nearly slips it through Vankessel’s pads.

2:44: Sobocan and Gangnon go in on a two-on-one and as Sobocan heads to the net he gets drilled by a cross-check. Power play Admirals.

1:48: 3-1 Admirals
Some absolutely sick puck movement by the Admirals on the power play. That was a highlight reel goal. It’s topped off by Sobocan feeding Gangnon as he breaks hard for the net and he gets his second of the game.

THIRD PERIOD

18:19: Whaddya know, more pressure from the Admirals. Prymack gets stopped by Vankessel.

17:53: Carter lights up Weidenbach with a huge hit. Weidenbach didn’t look too pleased but that was a textbook body check.

16:39: Admirals seem contempt playing the dump and chase game and just killing time off the clock. Nothing wrong with that.

15:55: Copeland goes to the net hard and Chovich takes offense to that and gives him a face full of glove. Chovich gets nailed with a misconduct penalty for inciting.

14:34: Gangnon flies up the wing but his hat-trick bid is turned aside by Vankessel.

14:03: Luciw and Eagan exchange words and end up dropping the mitts. Looked like Luciw got the better of that one. Admirals bench erupts. Eagan gets the extra penalty and the Admirals will get a power play out of this.

12:28: Prymack to Rutckyj to Carter who fires it off the post. What a chance that was. Beautiful passing play.

10:18: 4-1 Admirals
The Amherstburg Admirals strike again. Leeming hits Rennie at the side of the net with a great slap pass and Rennie redirects it past Vankessel.

8:09: That Admirals will be shorthanded as Prymack gets called for slashing.

5:34: Whitson gets called for boarding. I believe he said something because the ref gave him a misconduct on top of that. Admirals will get a power play here.

The rest of this game cruised by. The Admirals locked it down in the second half of the third and they come away with a big two points. It’s on to Dresden tomorrow, let’s go get two more! Thanks for reading folks!
