Welcome to another edition of the Inside the Game Blog. Tonight the Amherstburg Admirals will look to snap their four game losing streak against the Alvinston Flyers.

The Admirals won the previous meeting between these two teams 7-4 in Alvinston a month ago. The Flyers are on a streak of their own having won three straight. All three wins were against teams higher than them in the standings so things have really turned around for the Flyers. With a win tonight they would move up to third place.

The Admirals have scored just 10 goals during their four game slide, and will need to find a way to put the puck in the net tonight against an Alvinston team that hasn’t allowed many goals this year. They have allowed the second fewest goals in the league, tied with Amherstburg at 71.

Up front the Flyers are being led by Sam Vokes who has 24 points in 20 games this season. Shutting him down will be key for the Admirals tonight. Dan Matoski leads the way for Amherstburg with 16 points in 19 games and Kyler Carter and Blake Rutckyj are right behind him with 13 apiece.

Klinton Kenney will get the start tonight. He has a 5-5-1-0 record with a .887 save percentage. Brett Avery will be in goal for Alvinston. His record stands at 6-3-0-0.

Let’s go Admirals!

19:14: Early pressure for Alvinston. Admirals have already been forced to ice the puck.

18:00: What a chance out front for Hamilton and Sobocan. Both players had a couple wacks at it but couldn’t beat Avery.

16:45: VanEyk trips up Sobocan behind the Admirals net and we’ll have our first power play of the game.

15:27: We’ll play a little four-on-four now as Spada goes off for roughing.

12:27: Some good back and forth action but now real quality chances yet aside from Hamilton’s.

11:03: 1-0 Flyers
A point shot from Chad Rainsberry finds its way through all the traffic and beats Kenney over the glove. Admirals in a hole early. I don’t think Kenney saw that puck. Three or four guys in front of him.

9:29: All of the sudden Amherstburg is having a real tough time breaking out of the defensive zone. Two icings in a row.

9:13: So Spada decides to take the puck up the ice himself and gets a shot on goal.

7:22: That’s more like it. Amherstburg spent that whole shift in the attacking zone and eventually force the Flyers to ice the puck.

4:08: Rutckyj gets robbed, then Leeming gets stopped and after a furious goalmouth scramble, Alvinston ices the puck.

2:29: Long after Carter gets rid of the puck Rose gives him a shot. Power play number two coming up for the Admirals.

0:24: A nice dispy-doo by Eady and he feeds Spada down low. Avery is forced to make a good save.

19:47: Not a great start to the period. Rutckyj goes off for boarding and we’ll be shorthanded again.

19:07: 2-0 Flyers
Power play doesn’t take long to convert. A shot from the half wall goes off a body out front and in. Warner gets credit for the goal.

16:34: Another penalty for Amherstburg. Prymack off for high-sticking. Can’t allow another goal here.

14:53: Nothing doing so far on the Flyers power play. Admirals doing an excellent job of keeping everything to the outside.

14:27: Warner catches Jones in the face with his stick. Admirals need a goal on this power play. Lots of movement and pucks to the net.

12:28: 2-1 Flyers
What a pretty passing play that was. Leeming to Morand to Leeming to Sobocan who wires home the one-timer. Huge goal.

11:57: 3-1 Flyers
A shot from the point gets tipped in the slot and beats Kenney over the shoulder. That momentum didn’t last long. Rainsberry with his second.

10:50: Rose off for holding. Now would be an excellent time for another power play goal.

9:24: A good chance for Sobocan again on the power play after some nice passing, but Avery makes the save.

8:54: 3-2 Flyers
This lethal power play strikes again! Gagnon and Rutckyj with a great give-and-go and Gagnon beats Avery over the glove.

5:45: A smooth breakout from the Admirals leads to a breakaway for Copeland. He puts it just over the net. What a chance that was.

4:45: We’ve now had roughly seven whistles in a span of five seconds. Puck keeps getting covered or going out of play.

3:07: 3-3 Tie
Another shift with possession in the offensive zone and Colin Hamilton finally puts it past Avery to tie the game. The Admirals have really carried the play this period.

1:09: Matoski is forcing turnovers all over the ice. Forces another one here and gets hauled down. Looked like a clear hook to me. No call.

0:59: 4-3 Admirals
Sobocan walks into the slot untouched and after having his first shot blocked, he gets the second one through. What a period for the Admirals.

16:24: Admirals seem content playing safe hockey right now. Dump and chase and play reposiible defensively. Nothing wrong with that.

15:25: Copeland absolutely lights up VanEyk. Crushed him at the blueline. Crowd goes nuts.

12:03: A great chance for Matoski in the slot but his shot is blocked by the Alvinston defender.

11:33: 5-3 Admirals
Rutckyj with a gorgeous end to end rush. Alvinston doesn’t so much as lay a finger on him and he beats Avery five-hole for the two goal lead.

10:49: Vokes and Prymack each go off for roughing. As does Matoski, so the Admirals will be short a man for two minutes or less.

10:05: 5-4 Admirals
Once again, the Alvinston power play cashes quickly. Berg beats Kenney and it’s back to a one-goal game.

8:47: Duncan goes off for high-sticking and Amherstburg will have a chance to restore their two goal lead.

6:31: Leeming’s hit gets up a little high and he’ll get two and a ten for head contact. Admirals short once again.

3:43: After relentless Alvinston pressure, Carter gets a breakaway pass. Only problem is he was offside. By an inch at the most. Close call.

1:43: Sobocan picks the puck off in the neutral zone and Rainsberry is forced to haul him down. Power play Admirals.

0:24: With less than 30 seconds left Copeland takes a goaltender interference penalty. It looked like he was pushed in but the ref disagrees. Not a good penalty to take regardless.

Admirals win! The losing streak is snapped at four games. A crazy back and forth game here tonight. I hope you all enjoyed the game. Thanks for reading folks!
