The Amherstburg Admirals are back at home after a three game road stand. It didn’t go as well as planned, the Admirals lost all three. But tonight, they host the Mooretown Flags who have also lost three straight, so now is as good a time as any to snap this skid.

Arren Romeril will get his fourth consecutive start for the Admirals since coming over from the Essex 73’s. He has yet to get a win for his new club but his numbers have been good. He is currently sporting a .915 save percentage since the move.

The player to watch for Amherstburg is Steven Spada, who has three points in the two games against Mooretown this season. Scratched for the Admirals tonight is Zach Brown, Chad Copeland and Chris Wallace.

On the other side of things, Dan Lumley has played well against the Admirals, with four points in two games. Goaltender Brandon Johnson has stopped 86 of the 92 shots he’s faced in the season series.

Quick little pre-game ceremony recognizing the Admirals player of the month for September, October and November. Congrats to Dan Matoski, Klinton Kenney and Ryan Jones!

18:50: Admirals have come out hitting hard. Spade and Morand with some bone crushers already.

17:34: All Amherstburg early. A couple of great chances right out front. Mooretown does a good job tying up sticks though.

16:13: Admirals taking the body all over the ice. Good. Wear those Flags down.

15:59: A great little chip pass to Sobocan, almost alley-oop like, and he walks in alone. Puck rolls off his stick before he can get a shot.

13:46: Beattie’s shot nearly squeaks through Johnson, but he covers it up. Addley goes off for high-sticking and we’ll get our first power play.

12:07: A few chances on the power play so far, but Johnson has played well and kept everything out.

10:13: Mooretown will get a chance on the power play now, as Gangnon goes off for hooking. Not the guy you want in the box, he’s a great PKer.

9:25: Nothing doing for the Flags on this PP. Great work by the Admirals penalty killers.

8:24: Great chance for Thompson as he walks in untouched. He fires the shot high and wide. That was close. Williams goes off for closing his hand on the puck and we’ll get another power play.

6:59: 1-0 Admirals
Great puck possession on the power play and a pass to the slot gets redirected to Matoski waiting at the side of the net. He buries it and gives the Admirals the lead. This power play is deadly when it gets set up.

5:36: A bullet from Lawrence goes just wide. Man, that kid has a cannon. Rutckyj gets robbed on the ricochet.

4:39: Morand crushes Harper and then Harper hits Morand. Blood starting to boil out there I think. Now Spada goes off for faking to hit a kid after the whistle. He’ll get a 10 minute misconduct.

4:00: Hamilton takes a retaliatory penalty. Mooretown back on the power play.

1:44: 1-1 Tie
A bad turnover in our end leads to a three-on-one and Mooretown makes no mistake converting. Schroeter finishes the play off to tie the game. A costly defensive breakdown in an otherwise good period defensively.

1:39: From bad to worse. Rennie gets two for roughing. Need to kill this off.

19:11: 2-1 Admirals
That was one of the craziest bounces you’ll ever see. Morand dumps it in from centre ice and right before it gets to Johnson it changes directions and gets by him. What a strange goal. But hey, they all count. Admirals lead.

17:54: Good push back shift from the Flags, but the Admirals do well to counter the pressure.

17:04: Rennie gives Lumley a push from behind. Ref thought it was excessive and gives him two for boarding. Penalty kill back out there. They’ve been great so far.

15:44: 3-1 Admirals
Admirals get a two-on-one rush shorthanded and Matoski feeds Rutckyj with a tremendous pass. All Rutckyj had to do was redirect it.

15:29: 3-2 Admirals
But the Flags power play strikes right off the draw. Layman flies up the wing and hits Thompson in the slot who puts it away.

14:09: Prymack hauls down Harper on a breakaway and we’ll see a penalty shot…and Harper shoots it wide. Romeril took the whole net away from him. Nowhere to go. That’s huge.

13:33: Beattie takes the puck off Johnson’s stick but he puts it just wide of the open net.

11:52: Admirals catch a break. Lawrence gets his shot blocked and as Mooretown heads the other way, Laframboise and Hayes take offsetting minors plus Hayes gets an extra two for spearing. Admirals power play.

10:25: A cross-ice feed to Morand works beautifully but his shot clangs the iron.

8:47: Hamilton’s hit gets a little high… I guess. He’ll get two and a ten for head checking.

8:31: Huge save by Romeril. More than one I think during the scramble.

8:22: Another jaw-dropping save by Romeril. Single handed preserving this lead.

7:17: 3-3 Tie
As I say that, the billionth shot, give or take a couple, of the power play finally gets through Romeril. He did everything he could, he just couldn’t stop them all.

7:08: Right off the draw Prymack gets called for kneeing. Right back on the penalty kill.

6:01: 4-3 Flags
The Flags get their first lead of the game. Another power play goal. Thompson with his second off the game with an absolute bomb. He rifled that one into the corner from the side-wall.

3:24: Spada with a few good hits that shift. Trying to get the team fired up.

3:07: Thompson’s hat-trick bid goes off the post. He had a wide open net.

1:19: Sobocan and Gangnon with a nice give-and-go, but Gangnon’s shot is stopped by Johnson.

0:28: Spada hits Lumley, Lumley takes exception and hits him back. Spada wrestles him to the ice. Spada gets the only penalties. Five for fighting, two for instigating and two for aggressor. Amherstburg will be short for nine, yes nine, minutes. Yikes.

17:12: Podgorski interferes with Luciw. Looked pretty obvious to me. No call.

16:04: Admirals PK doing a great job so far. Mooretown can’t really get anything going.

13:51: 5-3 Flags
Well it had to happen eventually. Mooretown finally scores on the nine minute power play. Lumley jumps on a rebound and beats Romeril.

13:08: Another Admirals power play. Prymack for cross-checking. Mooretown will have a five-on-three for a minute and a half.

12:27: Romeril ROBS Hayes. Absolutely stole a goal. Incredible stop. It seems like he’s good for a couple of jaw-dropping saves a game.

11:57: Crowd gives the ref a sarcastic cheer as he calls Ryan Lyle for interference.

11:01: 5-4 Flags
Ryan Jones absolutely hammers the puck past Johnson. Great feed from Matoski to find him. The Amherstburg power play converts one of their own.

10:26: Sobocan finds Gangnon with a great pass but he’s robbed by Johnson.

7:38: Romeril extends to make a good pad save, but he stays down. Uh oh. The last thing we need is for Romeril to get hurt… He stays in the game. Good to see.

2:41: Sobocan with a nice rush up the wing but he’s stopped by Johnson.

0:12: Some furious pressure from the Admirals with the goalie pulled, but they can’t beat Johnson.

That’s it. Admirals lose a tough one to Mooretown. Penalties ended up being a huge problem tonight, gotta stay out of the box. Thanks for reading folks.
