The Amherstburg Admirals are back at home looking to get back to their winning ways. They have lost their last two games to Wheatley and Mooretown. They’ll have to do it against the best team in the league right now, the Essex 73’s.

Essex comes into this game with a record of 16-0-1-1 this season and they are riding a six game winning streak. Corey Beaulieu is leading the way offensively for the 73’s with 35 points in 16 games. It will be tough to keep him off the scoresheet, but limiting his chances will be key tonight.

Offence hasn’t been a problem for the Admirals the last few games. They have 15 goals in their past 3 contests. Dan Matoski is leading the way with 14 points this season and Blake Rutckyj is right behind him with 13. Klinton Kenny will get the nod in goal tonight and he has a 5-3-1-0 record with one shutout.

Let’s go Admirals!

18:48: 1-0 73’s
Essex catches the Admirals on a change and Kenny stops the first one. Garon jumps on the rebound and the Admirals are in an early hole.

16:11: Amherstburg having trouble getting anything going right now. Essex carrying the play.

15:36: Sobocan and Rosati get matching slashing minors. We’ll remain five on five.

12:34: A couple of great chances for the 73’s but Kenny keeps them both out.

10:43: Essex will get their first power play of the evening as Spada goes off for high-sticking.

8:43: The Admirals kill it off without allowing any real scoring chances. Hopefully that will give them some momentum to get some chances of their own.

7:22: Sobocan works to get the puck off the defenceman behind the net and feeds Spada who was alone out front. Romeril comes up huge.

2:05: Hamilton takes a hit to make a play at the blueline. He bounces right back up.

0:38: Essex picks the puck off in the neutral zone and they get a great chance off the rush. Kenny makes a huge glove save. That draws some cheers from this packed crowd.

0:01: Alex Garon seems to be getting under the skin of Mark Sobocan. Sobocan takes a chop at him and he’ll go off for slashing late in the period.

17:18: Sobocan gets a good pass in the neutral zone and fires a shot on Romeril. The Essex goaltender makes the save but has a little trouble with the rebound.

15:31: Brown springs Beattie with a breakaway pass but Beattie’s shot doesn’t get passed Romeril’s big pads.

14:39: We’ll be shorthanded once again. Hamilton gets two for high-sticking.

14:27: 2-0 73’s
The Essex power play doesn’t take long to strike. Off the faceoff win, Brett Clarke wires a point shot past Kenny.

11:35: Essex doing a really good job of clogging up the neutral zone. Making it tough for the Admirals to break out.

11:20: A three-on-two rush up the ice and Gagnon feeds Hamilton with a great pass. Romeril goes post to post to keep it out with a tremendous save.

8:53: Leeming and Solecki get matching roughing minors and Clarke gets an extra two for unsportsmanlike. Amherstburg will get their first power play.

8:22: Brown has some trouble handling the puck at the blueline and it leads to a breakaway for Hebert. Kenny makes a fantastic glove save.

3:47: Back to the power play for the Admirals. Puck goes up in the air and Shaw takes a swing and hits Jones in the process.

3:05: What a chance in the slot for Matoski but once again Romeril is there to keep it out.

1:20: Beaulieu causing havoc in the Admirals zone. Morand is forced to haul him down. He’ll get a hooking minor for his efforts.

0:29: While shorthanded, Sobocan controls the puck in offensive zone, dances four guys and Thibert is forced to haul him down. What a play by Sobocan. We’ll be four on four and then Amherstburg will get an abbreviated power play.

18:19: 2-1 73’s
New guy Tyler Lawrence fights off the defender and feeds Kyler Carter with a great pass. Carter makes no mistake burying the one-timer. Admirals are back in it.

16:34: 2-2 Tie
Matoski wins the draw right to Beattie who feeds Copeland and he fires it by Romeril. What a start to the third period for the Admirals. We have ourselves a game.

13:41: The Admirals get trapped in their own zone for a shift and half, but they do a great job of keeping everything to the outside.

12:44: Prymack forces a turnover in the neutral zone and Spada gets a great chance. Three or four rebound chances after the original shot too, but they can’t beat Romeril.

12:35: Now the 73’s get called for too many men. A goal here would lift the roof off this place.

11:17: Rutckyj goes end to end untouched, but his shot is stopped again by Romeril.

9:47: Leeming crushes Bromley, who then tries to drive Leeming’s head into the ice. After all the scuffles, Bromley wipes the blood off his forehead and proceeds to lick his hand… that was the strangest, most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. A bunch of two and tens here. Not gonna bother going over them all. Check Pointstreak after the game for all the penalties.

7:19: 3-2 73’s
The Admirals lose a costly battle down low and it ends up on Hebert’s stick out front. He puts it by Kenny. The Admirals have some work to do now.

4:43: Janikowski goes flying up the wing and Rutckyj gets his stick in his skates. Admirals shorthanded again.

0:03: All kinds of pressure for Amherstburg with the extra attacker, they just can’t beat Romeril. Icing on Essex and the Admirals will get one more chance if they win the faceoff.

It’s all over. A valiant effort from our boys falls just short. The Admirals have now lost three straight. They’ll be in Blenheim Saturday night looking to snap this losing streak. Thanks for reading folks.
