The UCCU Center is buzzing. It’s a great turn out for a pre-season game and we’re hoping these two teams can put on a show for us tonight.

19:30- An early flurry of chances for the Carter- Holzel- Gagnon line. Essex goalie Chris Wallace stands tall though.

17:45- Kasey Basile showing that he’s not afraid to take the body even though he’s not the biggest guy. Two solid hits for him that shift.

17:40- Admirals forward Adam Minovski goes off for elbowing. We need a big kill here early.

15:28- After successfully killing the penalty, we go right back on the kill after Dean Patterson takes a holding penalty.

13:43- It’s tough to get any offense going when you’re constantly shorthanded, but the positive is we have kept them without a scoring chance so far. The penalty killing units look good so far.

12:51- Frank Dejardins lays out to block a point shot and bounces right back up shortly after the Admirals finish killing off the penalty.

12:13- Now it’s our turn. Matthew Rosati takes a elbowing penalty and we’ll have our first powerplay.

10:14- ADMIRALS GOAL. Mad scramble out front of the Essex net after a point shot and Kyler Carter finds the back of the net on the powerplay. 1-0 Admirals. Carter from Gagnon and Silverio.

6:59- Huge save by Alex Turkewicz to keep the game tied.

5:08- Back to the powerplay as Zoran Popel takes an interference penalty.

4:54- Big save from Wallace as he robs Basile of an open net.

4:16- Half way through the powerplay, Connor Rennie takes a penalty. Lots of room out there four on four and the Admirals have lots of speed to take advantage.

1:46- ESSEX GOAL. Daniel Slipchuk taps in a rebound after Turkewicz made the initial save. 1-1. Slipchuk from McIntyre.

Apart from conceding a late equalizer, the Admirals have a lot of positives to take away from that period. They’re showing that they aren’t afraid to take the body and the penalty kill looked really good. 1-1 game after one period.

19:10- ESSEX GOAL. Eric Shaw takes a shot from a sharp angle that finds its way through Turkewicz. 2-1 Essex. Shaw from Scott and Medved.

18:10- Michael Viera forces the Essex defenceman to turn the puck over and he gets a great scoring chance. Big save from Wallace to preserve the lead.

16:48- ESSEX GOAL. Shaw crashed the net and it leads to another goal. This time McIntyre taps in the rebound. 3-1 Essex. McIntyre from Scott.

16:19- Time to get one back. Rosati takes a charging penalty and we’ll have a chance to cut this lead in half.

14:40- Rennie makes a great defensive play to break up a two on one.

12:43-  Josh Lafrombois lays a huge hit on an Essex defenseman. Draws a big “ooooh” from the crowd here at the UCCU.

11:53- A hard battle out front by Minovski and it leads to another Essex penalty. This time it’s a double-minor. We gotta get one here. Time for the powerplay to click.

10:10- The Admirals are generating chances but Wallace shuts the door. That’ll be it for him though as Jake Walton will take over for Essex and James Caron comes in for the Admirals.

7:53- ADMIRALS GOAL. Right as the penalty expires Viera throws the puck out front to Colin Hamilton and he slips it by Walton. 3-2 Essex. Hamilton from Viera and Minovski.

5:42- ESSEX GOAL. Slipchuk finally puts it past Caron after a solid minute and a half of pressure by the 73’s. That’s Slipchuk’s second of the game. 4-2 Essex. Slipchuk from McIntyre and Pereira.

A lot of neutral zone play near the end of the period. The Admirals are having a bit of trouble sustaining offensive pressure five on five. We kept up the physical play though which is great to see. 4-2 Essex after two periods.

18:59- Early powerplay for us and it would be huge if our powerplay could pop one in here.

16:59- A couple great chances on the powerplay including a point shot that went just wide, but the Admirals can’t convert with the man advantage.

14:17- ADMIRALS GOAL. Kyler Carter with a nifty move after breaking in alone brings the Admirals within one. That was pretty. It’s his second of the game. 4-3 Essex. Carter from Holzel.

13:06- Yet another powerplay chance for the Admirals and a golden chance to tie this one up.

12:20- Admirals celebrate like they’ve scored after a scramble in the Essex crease but somehow Walton kept it out.

9:16- Basile in the middle of another scuffle after giving the goalie a little snow shower. It seems like he has the ability to get underneath opposing teams’ skin.

7:18- Huge save by Caron on a quick cross-crease pass. If the Admirals can come back in this game we can look back on this save as a game changer.

5:02- The Basile-Silverio-Hamilton line with some great offensive pressure capped off with a big save by Walton. This line is buzzing.

3:51- A nasty knee by Michael Popel gives the Admirals a powerplay. Now is as good a chance as any to tie this up.

139- An unlucky break for the Admirals as the puck squeaks out of the zone just as Popel is coming out of the box. Caron makes a big save to keep the game within one.

0:51- Admirals pull the goalie.

0:15- A HUGE save by Walton saves the game for Essex.

The Admirals come up just short in this one but there’s lots of positives to take from this one. This looks like it’s shaping up to be a great season. The final score tonight is 4-3 in favour of the Essex 73’s.
