Four unanswered goals by the Mooretown Flags was too much for the Amherstburg Admirals to overcome as they fell 5-4 Sunday night at the UCCU Complex.
Dan Matoski (1G, 2A) opened the scoring at 13:01 of the first period when he converted a pass from Mark Sobocan on the power play. Jeff Schroeter would draw the Flags even just five minutes later when he converted on a three-on-one rush.
Less than a minute into the second period, Kyle Morand gave the Admirals the lead and Blake Rutckyj (1G, 1A) extended the lead to two goals at 4:16 of the second frame when he scored a shorthanded tally.
The Admirals found themselves in penalty trouble and three power play goals in a span of 10 minutes by Brett Thompson, with two, and Macgregor Haddon gave the Flags a 4-3 lead heading into the third period.
Another power play goal at 6:09 by Dan Lumley gave the Flags a two-goal lead. Ryan Jones would pull the Admirals within one but that’s as close as Amherstburg would get as their losing streak extended to four games.
Arren Romeril made 21 saves in the loss, while Brandon Johnson made 31 for the Flags.
The Admirals are back in action on Sunday when they host the Belle River Canadiens.
