The Amherstburg Admirals gained a valuable point but fell to the Wheatley Sharks 3-2 in overtime, despite missing a few key players at the UCCU Complex Nov. 10.
Kyle Morand sat out due to a suspension, Blake Rutckyj left the game early due to an injury and Thomas Eady received a game misconduct for head contact.
Midway through the first period Brett Babkirk’s point shot found its way through traffic, beating Klinton Kenny for the only goal of the opening frame.
Admirals forward Colin Hamiton scored his fourth goal of the season just 3:23 into the second period to tie the game. Wheatley would regain the lead halfway through the period when Ryan Zsebok finished off a nice passing play after the Sharks forward has caused a turnover deep in the Amherstburg zone.
Once again the Admirals would get an early goal at the start of the final period, as Steven Spada blocked a clearing attempt and beat Conner MacKinnon with a hard wrist shot. Despite having a five-on-three power play, Amherstburg wasn’t able to beat MacKinnon again and Brett Babkirk scored his second goal of the game 3:40 into the overtime.
Admirals goaltender Kenny made 36 saves in the loss.
The Admirals will be back in action Nov. 16 when they travel to Mooretown to take on the Flags.
