The Amherstburg Admirals had a pair of shorthanded goals as they held on to defeat the Belle River Canadiens 6-5 for the team’s sixth straight victory Sunday night at the UCCU Complex.
Two late first period goals by Dan Matoski and Steven Spada less than a minute apart gave the Admirals a 3-2 lead heading into the second frame.
Colin Hamilton gave the Admirals a two goal lead almost mid-way through the period, but a goal by Hunter Corp 40 seconds later brought the Canadiens within one. Makaric would find the back of the net on the power play to set up an exciting third period.
Less than two minutes into the final frame, Kyler Carter scored his fourth goal in the last four games to give the Admirals a 5-4 lead. Belle River converted on another one of their 14 power play chances as once again Makaric beat Klinton Kenny (29 saves) to tie the game. It wouldn’t last long though, as Blake Rutckyj scored Amherstburg’s second shorthanded goal of the game to secure the win.
The Admirals travel to Wheatley Nov. 4 and a win would put them in third place.
